Benefits of a regular exercise routine

If you have been struggling to find the motivation to go workout or go to the gym, try bringing your significant other with you! Sixty-six percent of women whose partner exercised regularly also began working out, compared with 24 percent of those whose partners didn’t get off the couch, revealed researchers at University College London. When you’re both working toward the same goal, you always have each other as a source of encouragement and reinforcement for why the sweat is worth the effort.

Audiobooks are another great way to help get you motivated at the gym. Treadmillers who listen to audiobooks went to the gym 51% more than non-listeners in a study at the University of Pennsylvania.

“Listening to a story can make your workout go from being a task you feel compelled to do to a pleasure you eagerly anticipate,” says lead study author Katherine Milkman. “Thrillers with cliffhangers at the end of each chapter may be the most effective for keeping you hooked, but any book you can dive into makes a great trainer.”

Regular exercise benefits more than just physical health, it can improve mental health as well. A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2010 found that on average, patients who exercised regularly reported a 20% reduction in anxiety symptoms compared to those who did not exercise.
