Uterine Fibroids

o   Most common type of tumor of the uterus

o   Can grow within muscular wall or in uterine cavity

o   Develop under the influence of both progesterone and estrogen

Larger Uterine Fibroids Prevalence

o   African American women

o   Obese women

Consider Many Options

o   Natural treatments can be effective for fibroids (4-8cm in diameter)

o   Fibroids larger than 8cm in diameter

  • Treated with uterine artery embolization
  • Can also be treated with acupuncture

  • Eating less meat reduces risk
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
